Applying for a teaching position, regardless of whether this is your first time or are moving to a better environment, means you will be required to write a teaching statement to go along with your application. The statement is basically where you show your readers what your goal in teaching is, your philosophies, and how you’re going to apply your ideals in teaching. To sum it up, this is where you get to show your reader what you are made of and why you are the ideal candidate for the job.

Teaching Statement Example

Teaching has always been a passion of mine ever since I was in high school where I worked as a tutor during the summer. Parents hired me to teach their children academic subjects which I did with gusto. My summer students enjoyed the lessons I prepared for them because I usually integrate play with learning for them to remember our lessons quickly. It was a success and many parents even watched and participated in our lessons seeing how responsive their kids were to studying. I knew right then and there that teaching was what I was destined to do.

I pursued teaching during my college years where I gained my Bachelor’s Degree in Education in the University of California. From there I took up an internship in our local elementary school where I got to work with grade school students. This time I found myself teaching English from the basics all the way to the more complex parts. The challenging part for me was to show how beautiful learning the English language is. Fortunately, my mentor, Mrs, Jessups, showed me a personal technique that she developed over the years to make the lessons engaging. I have to admit that it worked. I was eventually hired in the elementary school where I handled all English classes for Grades 1 to 3 and although drafting lessons was tough, I saw it not as work but as a mission to share my knowledge to young children.

Today, I am pursuing a different teaching path where I believe I can share my wisdom, my experiences, and my knowledge of the English language in your good school where I believe I can do the most good. I believe that I am qualified for this job as I have 6 years of experience in teaching English to young learners and that I have an extensive knowledge of the English language that I can easily translate to children for them to grasp the concept immediately.
